Why blinds are better than curtains and nets
Nets are seen as somewhat old fashioned by people, they discolour easily
and need regular cleaning whereas blinds need a quick dust every so often.
Blinds allow you to fully vary the amount of light and privacy you have
in a room which is a great convenience over net curtains which you can't
increase the privacy of.
At night too blinds offer you a more private aspect when nets require
additional covering in order to create a private space.
Measuring for blinds
Measuring inside a window recess:
First ensure that the recess your blind is going into is not obstructed
in any way, so the blind can hang freely when fully extended.
Make sure the recess is at least 75mm (3 inches) deep, otherwise it will
not be able to accommodate the operating mechanism.
Measure the total width from A to B and the length from C to D (see diagram
1). Do this in several places to allow for any slight variation or irregularity
in your windows.
Make a note of the narrowest of these measurements, to the nearest millimetre
using a metal tape measure.
Measuring outside a window recess:
Decide how far you want the fabric to overlap on all sides – we
recommend this should be at least 45mm (13/4 inches) on all sides. In
the case of Austrian blinds, we recommend this is at least 80mm (31/4
inches).
Carefully measure the width from E to F (see diagram 2), adding a further
38mm (11/2 inches) to take account of the operating mechanism. Measure
from G to H to the length you require.
Make a note of these measurements to the nearest millimetre using a metal
tape measure.
Nets and voiles are used to create privicy and to add style throughout
your home, these can be easily fitted to your window using net wire, extending
net rods and more decorative, cafe rods. Voiles are ready made panels
of approx 59" wide unless stated, and come in three standard drops,
nets are available by the metre so you can get the amount needed for your
window and available in a range of lengths.
Curtains Advice
Designers of this year will adopt a liking to creams and browns; eyelet
curtains are very popular as they are easy to hang and look great with
minimum effort for a great look, eyelet curtains give a great finished
look to any room, plain or semi plain textured curtains will be in demand
as they give a room character and style, using faux leather, faux suedes
and corduroy will all add texture to a room and adding accessories such
as mirrors and cushions will all add to the overall effect and bring your
room to life.
